Online Shopping Disasters

I’ve done a little online shopping recently, only at 2 places, trying to take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.

Friday I went on to Kohls site to get some sweaters and flannel sheets (it’s cold, need warmth!). The sweaters came in (still waiting for the sheets), and the only thing they got right was that I ordered 3 of them, and that they were sweaters. They were all wrong sizes and the completely wrong sweaters. Really, Kohls? Really?!? Monkeys could have filled my order better.

Speaking of monkeys…

The next deal I took advantage of was free shipping from ThinkGeek (I love ThinkGeek so much). With the cold season on us we drink a lot of hot chocolate in this house and I realized that Ken did not have a ‘special’ mug. For example, my daughter has Sailor Moon, and Inu Yasha ones, and I have Aerosmith, and Beauty and the Beast (Broadway musical) mugs. Ken was usually using my Aerosmith, or a plain old red one. I decided he needed one of his own, and he was checking out the awesome TARDIS mug that the monkeys over a ThinkGeek sell. So I ordered it, just got it in the mail today and it looked like this….

Yep. The handle is broken right off. But hey, no big. It’s ThinkGeek, and they are awesome and will have no problem with sending out a brand new one. Except as it turns out, the mug, which I just ordered on Monday (2 days ago), is now out of stock. /cry

I give up.

It’s all in the Hand

I was watching Firefly tonight and got reminded of something I discovered a few years back, so of course I felt the sudden need to blog about it.

Take a look at the Disc 3 DVD cover, feel free to click on the image to get better detail…

Does anything look weird? Like maybe something doesn’t belong? I’m sure that I’m not the only one who discovered this, but if you take a look at the gun hand you might notice that is Mal’s gun, as well as Mals hand, on Jayne. Creepy.

Just felt like pointing that out.

TV Shows

OK, so I’m not big on watching TV, we even cancelled cable because we never watch it (and it’s so darn expensive). Most of the shows I like are from networks like; Syfy, USA, BBC America, Discovery and History. So I will sometimes miss really good shows from other networks.  These are usually shows that end up cancelled before their time. They are also shows I might not have ever watched (or even heard of) if I did not have Netflix. Examples below:

Reaper – Sam turns 21 and finds out his parents sold his soul to the devil. So now he has to work for the devil to return escaped souls to Hell. Yeah, it sounds like another show, but don’t let that bother you. It’s pretty funny, and I loved the cast.

Eli Stone – A lawyer starts to have hallucinations, and thinks they are messages from god. Funny thing to note: We watched this during the time we were watching “Reaper”, in Reaper Sam and his friends work for a place called, ‘The Work Bench’ and on an episode of Eli he gets a client who works for, guess where? The Work Bench, we even see her wearing the same apron as the guys on Reaper. Turns out someone who worked on Eli is married to someone who worked on Reaper. So yeah…I see what they did there.

Better Off Ted - ‘Witty’ is the first thing that comes to mind as I try to figure out how to describe it. It’s a comedy set in an office, I know that alone does not sound interesting, but given a chance you might actually like it.

Drop Dead Diva – I believe this one is still on the air. I actually wasn’t expecting to like this one, but a couple episodes in I found I was enjoying it, and not just watching it to kill time.

A few other shows in my queue: Eureka, In Plain Sight, Merlin, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Primeval, Sherlock, Monk, Bones, The Tick, Deadliest Catch, MythBusters, Pawn Stars. And pretty much anything sci-fi (including stuff I own on DVD), some anime and a few movies. So I’m pretty happy with what I have to watch on Netflix, while also keeping up with other shows on Hulu (Psych, Castle, Warehouse 13).

Who needs cable?

Facebooks Timeline Profile

I’ve heard a few good things about it, so I decided to check it out for myself.

Click for more detail

Some people are going to love it, but I’m not impressed. I don’t find it all that “innovative” or “clean” or “awesome”. The layout actually reminds me of MySpace, and I don’t want to be there. The only difference is Facebook didn’t add all the glitter and colors of MySpace (is that why people are calling it “clean”?). There are two fairly cluttered columns of info, as you scroll down the page it almost becomes confusing to look at.

Timeline – There are a couple of sites out there that already do something like this, Memolane is one of them. It’s kind of cool, even if it does get old fast. But other than myself, and stalkers, who else really wants to look at my facebook (and life) history?

Music (Spotify app)- Done a million times on pretty much every site in various ways. Does nothing for me. There will be other apps to share and experience things in a different way, those also do nothing for me, I kind of find it pointless.

I actually like the cover photo (the large one in the header), not sure why. Right under there are all the links to various parts of your page, “Friends”  ”Photos”  ”Likes”  ”Notes” and you can access apps there as well.

But here’s the thing; How often do you look at your profile, or anyone’s profile? Rarely, if ever. We log in and look at the main news feed, which they seem to mess with every month. The recent addition of the ticker is beyond annoying. It’s not needed, it adds nothing of interest, and just clutters up the news feed. All I get from it is a lot of double info, and stuff I don’t care about. I really don’t need to know that my friends are commenting on their friends pages (strangers to me). They need to give us an option to turn that thing off.

This facebook profile could be useful for those who have moved away from home. Especially if they do not have a blog, their profile could be a nice way for their friends and family back home to keep up with their lives. That’s about the only real use I see for it.

Honestly, I am baffled by those who are so impressed with the changes. There is nothing new or groundbreaking about it, all facebook did was take things other sites were doing and put them all in one place. Some people may like that, but I just see it as a lot of noise. I like my social networking to be simple, and that’s not facebook anymore.

I actually think they need to change the name to “stalkerbook”. Seriously. It’s getting kind of creepy over there.

Farscape on BluRay

So excited to hear about this, not sure why it’s taken me so long to ramble about it on here. The complete series will be released on November 15th and can be pre-purchased for $124.99, you can also buy the seasons separately, for $45.99.

Farscape is one of my favorite shows, has been since I first saw it on Sci-fi. This needs to be added to my collection, it will also be nice to get rid of the old DVD sets that take up so much space on my shelves.

Creepy Goldshire Kids

So I have always thought human children were creepy in general, it wasn’t until recently that I discovered just how creepy they really are (not sure how I missed this all these years).

I found out about these ‘creepy Goldshire kids’ and decided I had to check them out for myself. At 7am I ran down to Goldshire, even though I thought they spawned in Stormwind, but to my surprise there they were, running down the road to SW in their creepy pentacle formation, then they stood around The Valley of Heroes for about 15 minutes running around a little in one area, always stopping to reform the pentagram. Staring at me…I could feel those creepy little eyes burning into my soul!

After this they ran off to the middle of Goldshire and just did more of the same running around, etc, for about 20 minutes. They even stared down Marshal Dughan, he ignored them, I assume it was out of fear. I don’t blame him. The Stormwind Royal Guard passed by, but they just kept going, they ignored my pleas for help. They also appeared to be scared of the children.

The leader is obviously the dark skinned red head kid, Cameron. He’s always in the middle. At one point I saw an innocent level 8 Warlock wander past, I don’t think she ever made it to level 9…dun dun dun. I also saw a level 8 rogue, she stealthed right past, I hope the kids didn’t see her. But they are clearly evil, so maybe such tricks don’t work on likes of them.

After thoroughly freaking out everyone in Goldshire they ran down the road towards Northshire, they stopped by the lake and spent about 8 minutes plotting their evil deeds. As a priest I tried to figure out a way to purify them, but nothing worked. They smiled eerily at my efforts and kept whispering to each other in secret. After that I followed them as they calmly walked to a house just down the road in Goldshire.

Inside the house were skinning and leather working trainers who acted as though they saw nothing. The children went upstairs, stood in formation and did not move.

Suddenly there was eerie music and I heard a mysterious, demonic voice. The children turned to me, their eyes glowing red, but before they could attack I threw a shield on myself and ran away as fast as I could. I must have lost them because I am clearly still alive…
OK, so I’m not sure that their eyes were glowing red or that they were going to attack me, that might have been all my imagination…But I did run…Creepy little bastards. I wasn’t going to give them a chance to sacrifice me.

Yeah. That’s how I just spent an hour of my life. What? There’s nothing wrong with that.
(I actually had set my WoW screen to ‘windowed’, and was doing stuff online as I watched the kids heh)

Thanks, Fellow Monkeys

I logged into facebook the other day to find out that certain friends had started one of those ‘re-post” things. Usually I don’t even bother to read those statuses because it’s always something stupid/political/religious, I typically just roll my eyes, then pass it by. But I made an exception this time because I noticed the only people who had posted it were my fellow “monkeys”. They happen to be the most awesome people evah. They are like minded geeks, people who I met online about 10 years ago and am all the better for it.

So anyways, I log in and read this:

Please post this as your status if you know someone who has been eaten by Reavers and is now a hood ornament on a Reaver ship. 85% of people won’t copy this as their status because they have no idea what a Reaver is; 10% will start speaking Chinese or say something profound like “I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you”; and 5% will start singing “The Hero of Canton.”

Now, thanks to that, I have had “The Hero of Canton” stuck in my head for a couple of days. Yeah, that was the point of this blog post; Me, getting another odd song stuck in my head. This must be what going mad feels like…

Oh, and I most certainly re-posted that status. How could I resist?

Borders

Click image to see more detail

Well, it’s finally happened. Borders is going out of business for good. Recently they started to close down some of their locations, and now the ones that are left are having the “liquidation sales”. Even with the so-called sales the prices are still too high, things through Amazon (or Walmart) are cheaper. Once the prices drop down to under 50% off most of it should be worth buying, even though with a lot of it you still won’t be saving much money (maybe be saving $1 or 2 compared to Amazon prices). Currently the only things worth buying are magazines at 40% off, because you can’t really get them cheaper anywhere. This made Ken happy because he was able to get some of his expensive magazines for a lot cheaper than usual. Manga might be another good buy, most places seem to sell manga at retail value (even amazon) and right now Borders has them for 20% off. Amanda got some Dark Hunters manga and I picked up a couple volumes of Vampire Hunter D.

Also, I know it looks like a good deal to see 40% off BluRays, but you are still spending a lot more money than you would if you ordered them through Amazon instead. So unless you want manga, comic books and magazines, the sales are not worth it right now.

I will miss Borders. Even though I rarely bought books, or anything else in there (unless there was a decent sale) I did like hanging out, getting stuff in the cafe and reading things that I could not afford (Buffy graphic novels, etc).

Die Facebook Chat! DIE!

I really hate this new side bar chat thing that facebook has implemented. No matter how many times I try to hide the huge stupid chat bar it just keeps reappearing, it happens anytime I leave to look at someones profile or at a page. Why bother having a hide option if the damn thing keeps resetting? Same thing happens if I set myself as not being available to chat, it keeps resetting me as being available. *headdesk* Could this be a glitch? Sure. But I swear facebook does these things purposely.

The only good thing about facebook is that it was a great way to reconnect with old friends, classmates and long lost family members, and you could do it for free.

Google+ is my new friend. It’s where my geeks are at, it’s clean and simply awesome. I hope it stays that way. I never really liked facebook or other social networks, I found them to be annoying, not so with google+.
